Martin Defense Group, a privately-owned defense contractor, is looking to add a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to its team. The incumbent will join a group of talented Engineers, Scientist, and Innovators with tremendous top-side potential devoted to solving novel technological problems with national defense implications in the fields of Cybersecurity, Autonomy, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Naval Architecture among others. The incumbent will support exciting maritime programs with a focus on new platform design, prototyping, integration, and testing. In this role, you will lead mechanical system design and engineering for a novel unmanned maritime platform. The role requires mentoring other engineers on marine mechanical system design and engineering. You will be expected to work closely with the engineering team to translate requirements into the successful engineering of products demonstrated with at-sea testing. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Investigate new science and technology
• Engineering of mechanical systems and system of systems including hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, and structural
• Presentation of systems in written technical data packages and design reviews with the customer
• Construction oversight of system specific installation, benchmarking, and dockside testing.
• Test support of systems during builder’s trials
• Pricing, purchasing support, and budgetary reporting during systems construction
• Assist in report writing and presentations
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification/Requirements:

• Proven academic record, with an emphasis on machine design.
• Experienced using CAD: Solidworks, Rhino, and AutoCAD  
• Good attitude; must be a team player, but also efficient working individually.
• Possess the interest and flexibility to be involved with interdisciplinary engineering tasks
• Able to demonstrate initiative and possess time management skills to meet deadlines
• US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance

 Qualification/Preferred:

• Experience with maritime mechanical systems design and engineering
• Experience designing launch and recovery mechanical systems 
• Experience with designing large mechanical connections
• Experience with FEA, CFD, MATLAB, and other engineering software
• Experience with Solidworks PDM
• Experience with configuration management of CAD assemblies

Education/Training:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent from an accredited college or university and 5+ years’ experience in a Mechanical Engineering position.
  OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent from an accredited college or university and 7+ years’ experience in a Mechanical Engineering position.
