Martin Defense Group, a privately-owned defense contractor leading innovation in modeling, simulation, design, and construction of novel systems for DoD and other partners, is seeking an Advanced Materials Engineer with extensive experience in materials and modeling.  The incumbent will join a group of talented Engineers, Scientists, and Innovators, devoted to solving novel technological problems with national defense implications in the fields of Cybersecurity, Autonomy, Materials, and Naval Architecture among others. General Description:

Candidates are sought for a position within the Advanced Materials team - lead research, development, validation and implementation of advanced material, manufacturing, structural solutions for DoD applications. The incumbent will be responsible for provide advanced material and structural life and impact dynamics performance model for composites and fabrics to support design and prototyping of maritime platforms. The role requires the ability to work independently as well as in a team with significant remote interaction.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Analysis of advanced materials and development of novel analytical tools
  • Structural stress analysis and life prediction
  • Transient dynamic analysis
  • Investigate new science and technology
  • Present work through written reports and formal presentations
  • Support of multi-disciplinary integrated teams
  • Lead tasks and projects associated with advanced materials
  • Track schedule and budgets of assigned tasks and projects
  • Mentor junior engineers in finite element analysis, materials selection, and design of composite/fabric materials
  • Support development of proposals


 Required Qualifications:

  • Proven academic record and career accomplishments, with an emphasis on materials, finite element analysis, fracture and fatigue
  • Experience in finite element analysis of composite materials, impact dynamics, structural performance prediction.
  • Possess the interest and flexibility to be involved with interdisciplinary engineering tasks as company needs require
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and possess time management skills to meet deadlines
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
  • Experience with one or more coding/scripting languages such as C++, Fortran, and Python

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with finite element software such as Abaqus and ANSYS.
  • Experience with composite manufacturing and/or composite design
  • Experience with additive manufacturing a plus
  • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD
  • Experience in design and engineering of maritime mechanical systems a plus
  • Experience with other engineering software such as Python, MATLAB and Rhino


  • Master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study
  • Senior level:  6+ years relevant experience
